WORKSHOP VISIT: MATERIAL GOOD

Material Good | Seattle, WA
NuBe Artisan Since 2009
U.S. Made, U.S. Sourced, Made by Hand, Green for Good.

Initiated in order to raise support for cancer research, founder Lauren Burman honors her grandmother Shirley with one-of-a-kind ceramic vases.

Visiting Material Good was a blast. Walking into their Georgetown warehouse on a cold, rainy day warmed me right up with all of its positive energy. The handful of employees were hard at work making their signature bud vases while we chatted with founder Lauren Burman.

After her grandmother Shirley’s cancer diagnosis, Lauren decided to do something positive to honor her. She began selling vases at her mother’s flower shop, raising money for cancer research and patient services. The more people discovered the Little Shirley’s, the more order requests Lauren received from her mom.

Material Good quickly outgrew the makeshift pottery studio in her mother’s basement. Since then, Lauren and her team have moved to Georgetown, right across the street from Seattle Pottery Supply where they buy all of their supplies. It doesn’t get more local than that!

Material Good hasn’t lost their vision with all of their success. Each month a new Little Shirley color is partnered with a community organization. Ten percent of that color’s profits go to the organization’s cause. Check out past organizations here. The classic shape and the infinite color options guarantee there is a Little Shirley for everyone.
